I heard you can get the Powershell gui visual studio plugin to work on the VS express edition but I have not tried it as I did purchase Powershell Studio 2014. I searched so a lot for good powershell gui tools, even looked for free at first, and found the the PS Studio was by far the best.

Editing Font and Coloring: You can change the font of the editor and its size. All bolded fonts are fixed point fonts. In PowerShell Studio, you can change the background color of the indicator margin where the breakpoints, tracepoints and bookmarks are located: We also updated the color picker: You can define custom colors by right-clicking on an empty color space: The color editor allows you to manually enter RGB values or use sliders to customize and select the desired color. If you want to set the background transparent for specific items, you can right-click on the background color picker to bring up the context menu and select the Set to Automatic menu item. PowerShell Studio 2014 adds more options for color customization and allows you to tailor your workspace to your liking.
ADD: PowerShell class ps1 template. ADD: Service Script template. ADD: String escape commands to template tokens.
I would have lived with this if it had been a more obscure corner case, but I've hit it more than once on some very mundane use-cases, at least to me. I've used and like PrimalForms Community but it of course is long in the tooth and I haven't done many projects with it recently. The built-in ISE has been much improved and is the most reliable and available IDE I have available so I've had to stick with that. Martin9700 wrote: I use PowerGUI myself.
Alternatively, they offer a free community edition of the old version of it, Primal Forms; then, there's the more general-purpose coding/scripting platform they have, PrimalScript (which costs the same as Powershell Studio). Okay, I'm overwhelmed.I also can't find anything that shows what PSStudio offers that PrimalForms Free doesn't, and the only thing I can find that PSStudio does over PrimalScript is the ability to create a GUI interface (which I'd really like to do!). Also, I've not found anyone who's compared them to PowershellPlus. So, does anyone have good experience with these different products? Or maybe another great scripting tool to point me to?
In fact, it’s expensive if your an individual, but cheap if you are an Enterprise guy/gal. Go see at: Am I shill?
All SAPIEN software with valid subscription includes free maintenance and major builds/releases. You can RENEW a subscription up to 3 months before and 3 months after expiration. Click if your subscription is 4 to 15 months past expiration. If a subscription is allowed to expire, you may still use the application “perpetually” but will no longer receive any updates.
Sapien PrimalForms CE is another free one. No link to it on their website or any place I can find. Can anyone tell me the name of a free GUI form builder for Powershell that really is free and not fake free and also has a link to download it?
• Create advanced functions using the Function Builder. • Monitor script performance and memory usage. • Script with cmdlets from a remote machine.
SAPIEN Technologies () released their PowerShell tool, PowerShell Studio 2014 this month. They give a 45 day trial, so I’ve downloaded it and am truly impressed. In the first day it already helped my productivity. I thought I’d spend a few blog posts looking at some of the features.
Added additional keys to the remote keyboard with the most commonly used PowerShell symbols. Existing Server list is copied to iCloud and can be used across devices. Existing History lists are copied to iCloud and can be used across devices.
– 32-bit and 64-bit PowerShell integration. – Built-in PowerShell help.
PowerGUI has some glaring faults. It's handling of RSAT objects is awful to completely broken--not surprisingly it does great with Quest tools--which is a pretty big one but I've found that doesn't limit me THAT badly. I fall back to the ISE in those cases.
IPowerShell is brought to you by SAPIEN Technologies, Inc. The makers of the best Windows Scripting IDE available: PrimalScript and the only PowerShell GUI IDE: Powershell Studio! The big news in this release is Spotlight search support! 1) We added NSUserActivity indexing to cmdlets, about_help and providers. When you view any item in these lists, that content is now added to the on-device search index so you can easily return to previously viewed content by doing a Spotlight search on the device. 2) Whenever you download your data from our servers, we immediately index all of the cmdlet, about_help and provider topic names so that you can search for a cmdlet name using Spotlight and then display that content with a single tap. 3) Added support for Universal linking to the application.

I’m going to dig into these new releases and I’ll let you know what I find out. I have a feeling there is more in here than I have seen after just a few hours of playing. Now it’s time to put them to work in a real environment.
When we finish adding all of the cmdlet, about_help and provider information to our website, doing a web search for that information will provide a Universal Link to view the information in iPowerShell Pro. 4) Bug fixes and performance improvements • 5.0.134 Nov 18, 2015. New features: 1) Updated the display of cmdlet, about help, provider and alias information with nicer HTML formatting. 2) Updated all HTTP calls to HTTPS for more secure access and compliance with App Transport Security in iOS 9. 3) Support for multi-tasking on new iPads (split screen use).

I'd love some help and ideas! I've used pretty much all of these tools. PowerShell Plus was my favorite for a long time, but for a variety of reasons, I've gone back to using the ISE. I found PowerShell Plus had a really long startup time, and I just hated the Ribbon UI.

The best solution (in my humble opinion is PrimalScript). Now for the Shill part. PrimalScript is not free.
Though while Francois-Xavier Cat’s project was much more polished than mine, it still lacked something I was striving for – the ability to use any credential, not just assuming that the systems I want to manage are available from the script host. In my previous experiences I have always needed to jump this particular hurdlenever had the luxury of having a single domain or a single set of keys to the kingdom. So I kept goingand I’m glad I did. Because I created a better script?

Also, the interface COMPLETELY reconfigures itself when you run/debug a script and the variable window is not up by default. The variable window will show you all of your variables and their values as you step through each line of script. So I had to rearrange the window EVERY time I ran a script!!! To make matters worse, it would show recently created variables at the top, then shuffle them down to the alphabetical list. SO I was always hunting for the variable (is it up here.
Their PowerShell Studio product is one of the best and includes a tool formerly known as PrimalForms. PowerShell Studio is an incredible tool for making PowerShell GUI code, the only issue is the price (top tools demand top prices!). Luckily they have also produced a free version known as PrimalForms Community Edition. As I am writing this post it seems they have removed the download link and replaced it with a page that reads “” – I hope this means they are updating the tool and not discontinuing it! With enough Google-foo I have no doubt a copy of the community edition can be still found.
Create Windows PowerShell script modules in minutes with PowerShell Studio. Easily convert your existing functions to a distributable module. PowerShell Studio features a robust editor with syntax coloring, reference highlighting, bookmarking, code formatting, and code completion. Create, edit and manage code snippets to enhance your script development. The script packager offers advanced option and platform selections to deliver solutions targeted at specific environments. PowerShell Studio also makes it easy to alter the layout of the various panels that surround the editor. At the bottom left is a “Layouts” button. Clicking it shows the layouts optimized for the task you are doing. Once you get a layout you like, you can save your custom layout for later.
Detail screens are presented in HTML with tappable related links. If you try them out, let me know what you think! Knowledge is PowerShell, Jason. I worked in the Enterprise as a consultant for a large firm, recommended many products based on performance versus cost, sold solutions (I think good solutions) regardless of the company that manufactured them. My customer was my client, not the manufacturer of the software/hardware. Now, I’m retired from the constant nightmare that is customer support, product implementation, network design, solution design, deployment, management, troubleshooting outages, etc.

Alternately, you can save just the editor settings by clicking the Save Editor Settings. To make it easy should you like this theme I’ve pasted the XML for the dark editor at the end of this blog. All you’ll have to do is copy it to notepad, save it as an XML file, then use the “Load Settings” feature to load it.
