If you're already a heavy user of Evernote, say, or are eyeing the beefed-up Notes app that's coming as part of, OneNote is unlikely to sway you – although, of course, since it's free outside Office 2016 you can just try it – but it's definitely a more-than-competent, rich, multimedia-savvy notebook app. And remember that this is where the audio-recording notebook feature – which students and others would likely have relied on in previous versions of Word – now lives. You might have seen Microsoft trumpet the new Smart Lookup feature, which pulls definitions and internet search results into a pane in the document, but it's not substantially different to the feature that lived in the floating toolbox in 2011. We were initially hugely disappointed that the useful notebook view from Word – which let you record, say, a meeting or lecture while taking notes, and which time-stamped each line with the audio so you could quickly jump to a part of the recording just by clicking next to the relevant note – is missing in Office 2016, but actually that ability is still there; it's just now in OneNote, not Word.
Also, I can still buy Office 2010 for relatively cheap from the Ultimate Steal promotion (79.95 vs. 99.99 for Office Mac through Ultimate Steal) I think you can tell which direction I'm heading with this.but is there a flaw in my logic? Something else should I consider?

Computerworld downloaded and installed the public preview of Beta 3 Wednesday, and although Office for Mac 2016 applications had not crashed since, it was too early to call the problem solved. After installing Beta 2 last week, Computerworld's Macs running the new suite were crash-free for approximately 36 hours, at which point crashes and application lock-ups resumed.

Digital Signatures are not supported on the Mac, and neither is code signing. You will not be able to open a signed project in Mac Word. Compatibility Since the introduction of the document formats (namely.docx,.xlsx,.pptx, among others), compatibility between Mac and Windows versions has been excellent. The new document formats usher in an emphasized importance on document standards (although Microsoft still isn’t willing to move over to the OpenDocument formats). This is really good news since most documents that circulate now use one of these formats. Therefore, you should see absolutely no difference when using either version of Office. There may be very small differences when using the older formats, primarily because they aren’t looking for maximum compatibility through strict standards. Interface and Features Although the current version of Office for Mac is two years older than the current version available for Windows, there aren’t really many differences between the two.
This option literally creates a new document that shows all of the changes. You can do a File > Save As of this document and save it as a permanent comparison of the two documents.

Office 2008, for instance, came out a year after Office 2007 for Windows, yet it pretty much spurned the Office 2007 Ribbon-it did hint at it in a roundabout way-even though Microsoft had been busy pitching it as a much-needed revolution. Office 2011, on the other hand, has a Ribbon.
I recall using WordPerfect for this years ago while working on law review. I have long disliked Word for its complexity—with all its extraneous features, how odd it falls short here. Support for right-to-left languages is also absent. Outlook specifically does not support CalDAV or CardDAV, nor does it allow Cached Exchange Mode to be disabled. If you receive Rich-Text Format files from users of Outlook for Windows, you won’t be able to open them as they’re saved as winmail.dat. Most other things should be possible, though there may be a different route to get where you want. Careful use of the Help menu will be very important if you’re jumping ship to the OS X version.
For example, Office for 2008 was about being on a new development framework and working natively on Intel-based Macs. It’s clear that the Microsoft MacBU’s goal for Office for Mac 2011 is to be faster, and more responsive, along with a variety of other significant items (Outlook, Exchange support, user interface elements like the Ribbon, etc). Since this is a benchmarking article, we’ll focus on the speed goal.
The current version includes Office 2013, with the earlier version the customer needed to buy 2010 (if they wanted local software that worked with Office 365). Strangely Office 2011 (for Mac) is not on the supported list, but this is Microsoft so who's surprised (they make a Windows version of Outlook that is compatible with iCloud and a Mac version that is not, go figure) It is not possible to predict what MS will do as they don't have a clue.
If you select a command, and it has a key assignment, the Customize dialog will tell you what it is. This is a better place to look than the Help, because users can (and should) change their keystrokes to suit themselves on either platform. The Customize dialog also includes a handy Reset button if you decide you do not like the keystrokes you inherited from the previous user on that computer. Finally, each version of Word enables you to print a list of the currently-assigned keystrokes so you can stick them on the wall.
