I am thankful for the volunteers at BC; good morning to all. Everything was fine last night, but this morning no Word/Excel Starter 2010 docs will open.
I have Excel 2010 on an XP computer. When I click 'domains.xlsx' from my desktop Excel 2010 will open but not my file. The only way to open it is from inside the File tab. For example, both Word Starter 2010 and Excel Starter 2010 don't come with support for Add-ins, Comments, and SmartArt Graphics, just to give you a taste of what's what. The development of Microsoft Office 2010 started early as Microsoft Office 2007 was released. Also known as Office 14, it was out on June 15, 2010. With this version, Office 2010 becomes the successor to Office 2007 and the predecessor to Office 2013. Microsoft Office Starter 2010 Edition includes Microsoft Word Starter and Excel Starter, simplified versions of Word and Excel. Office Starter does not include PowerPoint, OneNote, or Outlook. Purchase Microsoft Office to activate the full-featured software.
If you want Office, go buy a student/home edition. I bought a 3-pack a couple of years ago and it wasn't that much for what you get.
I have issues with the mention of 'reduced functionality', because it reminds me of when Vista would enter reduced functionality mode when the thirty days passed, making your computer basically useless. Regarding the ads, there are apps for my iPhone which were extremely useful, and I eventually deleted because the developers released updates just to put ads in them.
Head to File Help in either Word Starter or Excel Starter and you’ll see an option that says “Take Office With You”. Press this and, providing you’ve inserted a suitably large USB flash drive into a port (it requires around 400MB of space), all the vital files will be transferred to the drive. You then just plug the drive into a PC and follow the prompts. When the device is removed from a PC, Office Starter is also removed. The catch There is a catch to Office Starter, however, and that is a panel down the right-hand side, which measures precisely 208 pixels wide and can’t be resized or removed.
Learn the basics of working with spreadsheets in Excel Starter and creating documents in Word Starter. Office Starter uses Click-to-Run as its technology for installation and maintenance on your computer. For information, see.
I have Windows 7. I have used Microsoft office starter that came with my Dell for 3 or 4 years now. Don't need full blown office so I never purchased it.
If you open explorer you will see that your USB with Office on it has a nice new icon. Office To-Go has a launch application on the root of the drive called Office.exe from which you can launch Word and Excel. That’s all there is to it guys, enjoy your portable installation of Office 2010 Starter.
So, if you have to send out a mailing to all the members of your club you can follow the six-step wizard and either dispatch emails or letters; Outlook isn’t included in Word Starter, but it integrates with Windows Live Mail. Word Starter 2010: what it can’t do Students will be disappointed by the wholesale omission of the References tab. This takes away the nifty ability to create an automated table of contents or use Word’s advanced citations tools. Likewise, the Review tab is nowhere to be seen: you can’t add comments, even though you’re able to view other people’s. Nor can you track changes. There are a number of small omissions people might find annoying, such as Word’s advanced reading views. For example, many people find it useful to opt for a full-screen reading view when checking a document; all you can do in Word Starter is switch between print, web, outline and draft layouts (via the icons at the bottom right of the screen, because the View tab is also missing).
I have lurked this site for many years but have never posted. I know I should probably start a new thread for this, but I am thinking it is probably not worth the effort, since there doesn't seem to be a solution to this issue. I have a client that has the exact same problem. In fact, this has happened with a few clients. And the solution for most of them was to install AbiWord or Libre and be done with MS altogether. However, this current client really wants his program to work again and with all the collateral issues I think it would be better for all involved, especially me. To see if there is actually a fix for this problem.
Naturally, all the basics are covered, too. There’s a word count, spelling auto-correction and the formatting tools everyone uses – bold, italics, underline – combined with Text Effects for adding advanced effects such as glows, shadows and reflections. Even if you need to whip up a professional report, the tools you need are here: headers, footers, watermarks and much more. Perhaps most surprisingly, there’s even a mail-merge feature.
Thanks in advance.
The popup reads: 'Microsoft Word Starter cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in Control Panel.' I did this Change/Repair from Control Panel and got this message: 'Repair Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Repairing Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English was unsuccessful because an internet connection is required. Ensure your computer can access the internet and try again.' I think it's obvious I do have internet access because I'm submitting this topic, but apparently MSFT Office doesn't know this. I opened Click-to-Run Application Manager at the Control Panel and got the same error message as above.
While I am not 100% certain, uninstalling and reinstalling or repairing the application will solve the issue, the fact that it works as expected at my house but not at hers leads me to believe that is not the complete issue. Anyone out there have any insight on this little conundrum of mine? Thanks in advance.
Microsoft Office 2010 Starter edition is a free, ad-supported version of Office 2010 meant to be included on new PCs. It only includes Word and Excel with a subset of features—but it does let you make a portable version.
The company says it prioritized which items to launch first based on user feedback, and these additions represent four of the most requested features. Setting up new accounts is also now easier, as you no longer need to know what type of account you have (like Office 365, Exchange, IMAP or POP), and if you’ve signed into other Office apps before using Outlook, the software will just prompt you to add that existing account. How to send mail on outlook.
Download Microsoft Office Excel 2010 Microsoft Excel 2010 is the powerful software that has been designed to work with formulas, formatting, tables, accounting, and much more. You can do as many things as you want that come to your mind, you can create calendars using beautiful and professional templates. You may get your own style in every work since you will always have the option to edit colors, fonts, sizes, background, insert shapes, etc.
I too have researched this exhaustively. So this is my last hurrah so to speak. Any ideas from the community would be appreciated, but please don't assume I am a newbie and ask me to start at square one. I have outlined the issue, it's the same as jackiemarie's. Oh, one last thing, It did at one time, resume working just like jackiemaries's, then another update took it out again. I have turned off the updates at this time.
There's recommendations for this good explanation and instruction at hp:, but there again, if it causes problems, I have no way to do a system restore. It seems like Office Starter 2010 took leave of its senses as a virtual program at Q. For anyone who is interested, and I don't really know how it came about, but Office Starter 2010 is now working, AND the Windows Update system seems to be fixed, AND I actually was able to do a system restore back to a 10/30/15 manually-created system restore point without getting an error! I just kept working at it. I'd go to Control Panel>Office Starter 2010-English>click Change (which means repair), and then get the error to try again; then I'd get the error that Click to Run Application Manager didn't even have an internet connection. I would restart and try it all again.
Since I hadn't uninstalled, the program files remained and I began poking around, looking for.exe files. By dumb luck and some educated guessing I was fairly quickly successful. Here is what I did: Start menu> Computer> Program Data> Microsoft> OEM Office 14> OStarter> en.us> Click to run64.msi> SetupConsumerC2R.exe> REPAIR..
I'll be getting a Linux OS then, because: Windows 10- never. Edited by ktz2, 22 October 2016 - 08:27 PM. First of all, my apologies for jumping on board this crazy train and hijacking this thread. I have, well, my mother in law is having, this very issue.except with a twist.
Some glitch caused my pc to only reboot in safe mode. From there I did a system restore, then uninstalled AVG.
Office Starter is not trial software — you can continue to use it as long as you need. When you’re ready to move up to PowerPoint, Outlook and the many rich functionalities in a full Office version, upgrading is just a few clicks away.
(Some of the forums don't permit attachments.) We're in for some wind and rain shortly here in my neck of the woods, so probably won't be back online for a time. BTW, what a terrific hat! Let us know what you come up with. To VBarnett: I hope my experience can help you!
When I highlight Open and click the Edit. Button nothing happens. I see the Edit. Button being depressed but no new dialogue box appears? If if I highlight Open in Protected View from the Actions: list then click Edit. I do get a dialogue box to pop open.

I would have lost acess to all that work had I not been able to install a paid version of Office 2007. Phooey on Microsoft and its corny, mostly unworkable Community answers.
To others who are having this problem, Bill's solution worked for me. Since this thread was the first hit on Google when I searched on 'excel 2010 doesn't open files when clicked on' I thought I'd add my comment. Bill suggested: File > Options > Advanced > General: uncheck Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE). However, I found the box already unchecked.

Just installed on July 20th. No office files can be opened unless I am in Word or Excel etc. And click on the file from there - which is real inconvenient when trying to open email attachments especially. There are no programs associated with Word, Excel, PPT etc. Personal computer with full admin rights. Same thing Program Files Microsoft Office office 14 There are no office files to be found??? DDE is unchecked.
To see if there is actually a fix for this problem. So, same set of problems, an update apparently didn't finish and the stupid 'repair' program doesn't see the internet connection.
This is a free, but light version of. A complete computer system consists of both the hardware and the software component of the computer. This is a software component which allows you to have the basic word and excel packages -the main function of a computer. Although it lacks the powerpoint and the outlook packages, it provides the comprehensive functionality of the word processing and database management.
'We insure that when you've upgraded, all your documents come across,' added Brian Albrecht, Office's group program manager, in the same video clip. 'There's no conversion or anything that needs to happen, and everything's there for you.' According to Takeshi Numoto, the corporate vice president for Office, users who want to upgrade to the Home & Student, Home & Business or Professional editions from Starter will be able to do so within Microsoft's software by purchasing a product activation key online or on a card that will be available at major electronics retailers. All the bits for those three editions will be installed on new PCs that offer Officer Starter; a purchased key will simply 'unlock' the appropriate version, so that no additional software need be downloaded. Starter 2010's two applications will be 'reduced-functionality' editions, said Numoto. But with one exception, he declined to get specific about what would be included in Word Starter 2010 and Excel Starter 2010, or what features within the for-money versions would be omitted.
'You can continue using it until your needs exceed what Starter can give you.' [ Related: ] At that point, Microsoft hopes that users will pay for a more substantial version.
The Starter is part of that, which is why it can no longer be installed from a link or the stored usb portable program, and why it is deteriorating randomly for some users. I have another Win 7 machine, apart from the above-referenced laptop in the thread, that one has the Starter installed from a link, after it came back from warranty service in 2013 with factory settings -minus the pre-installed Starter. If it gets broken, that's the end of it. I would guess that when Win 7 support ends in 3+ years, things will go downhill quickly. I'll be getting a Linux OS then, because: Windows 10- never.
No ability to select default programs because no Office Suite software shows up. Only the stock windows 7 programs. PLEASE HELP ASAP. THIS IS A RIDICULOUS PROBLEM to be having in the first place.
So, same set of problems, an update apparently didn't finish and the stupid 'repair' program doesn't see the internet connection. I un-installed the starter program and now the click to install program doesn't offer to install the Starter version. Most annoying.
You can download a free trial version of Office 365 or Office 2013 that includes Word. You would, though, eventually have to buy it to continue using it. You can probably purchase a version 2007 or 2010 online. Earlier versions are not compatible with Windows 8. Please mark helpful or answered as appropriate to help other users. Microsoft Office Starter 2010 was presented since January 12, 2018 and is a great application part of subcategory. It gained over 49,958 installations all time and 1,920 last week. It is accessible for Windows and the interface is in English. The program was built by Microsoft and has been refreshed on July 31, 2018. It is a small tool (1632144 bytes) and does not need too much space than the rest of the products listed on Text editors / Documents. It is highly used in India, United States of America and Indonesia. How to download and install After you get the 1,56 MB (setupconsumerc2rolw.exe) installation file double click on.exe file.
You might even find that if you did get a copy, it may not work. On top of that, MS could revoke your OS license. It's not available for individual sale and it's not free. That's just the way it is.
I think it's obvious I do have internet access because I'm submitting this topic, but apparently MSFT Office doesn't know this. I opened Click-to-Run Application Manager at the Control Panel and got the same error message as above. Snip attached. I restarted and attempted the Change/Repair from the Control Panel with the same results. From glancing in Microsoft Community concerning this, I see that those for whom the repair would not work were encouraged to uninstall Microsoft Word Starter 2010 at Control Panel, then go to Start>Programs>Microsoft Office 2010>click 'use', click 'open', then reinstall Office Starter 2010.however, each said this didn't work as there is no 'use' option available, plus there's an error that Click-to-Run Application Manager won't function. I tried to do System Restore back to 11/7/2015, but I'm still getting the same 'unable to successfully restore error 0x80070005' that we attempted to deal with in this topic,.
Later I decided to try to play a disc to see what would happen. Amazingly, just opening the tray manually again recovered that drive info to the machine. But not the Q drive. Why the Click-to-run/Starter was tangled up with the optical drive being deleted--haven't a clue........

Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Download Final Verdict Office 2010 received wide acclaim from across the world. With the newly-introduced backstage view, this time, critics praised the new customization options included for the ribbon. Since Office 2010 sales were flat against its predecessors, it managed to bring success for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). On average, it received 4 out of 5 stars, mostly due to the inclusion of the ribbon in all applications.
I tried using control panel and searching for a fix, but I don't really know what I am looking for. A little history: about 10 days ago I tried to upgrade my AVG free edition.
At my house I can open a Word file and do what I need to do with it. At her house, however, when she tries to open the file (that was created at my house, under her login on her Windows 10 laptop), she is getting the error referenced in the original post. While I am not 100% certain, uninstalling and reinstalling or repairing the application will solve the issue, the fact that it works as expected at my house but not at hers leads me to believe that is not the complete issue. Anyone out there have any insight on this little conundrum of mine?

Simply will not open Malwarebytes except in safe mode. Other programs wouldn't open either. So I began mainly using my laptop. Needless to say I now HAVE to use my desktop for a few days and decided to upgrade. General Discussion Hi, I have windows 7 and I just tried to open a document in Microsoft Word Starter and got the message (attached) Microsoft Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the product in the Control Panel. I went to the control panel and uninstalled word starter but I don't know what.
